Imagine the pope receiving a young woman still in her twenties who addresses him as "my sweet Christ on earth," then orders: "Get back to Rome where you belong!" Amazingly, Gregory XI complied! Yet this was but one astonishing incident in the extraordinary life of Catherine of Siena, a truly unique medieval woman. Youngest of twenty-five children, Catherine refused marriage and became a Dominican Tertiary at sixteen, cloistering herself at home in contemplative prayer, austere penances, and mystical experiences, culminating in "spiritual espousal” to Christ. Then, incarnating the Dominican ideal of "passing on to others the fruits of contemplation," Catherine left her solitude to care for the poor, nurse the sick, comfort the dying, and bury the dead. Increasingly renowned for converting souls and healing bodies, she was sought after to broker peace during civil wars and Church schisms. All this, and like Jesus, whom she called "my "Divine Spouse," she died at thirty-three! Four hundred letters and her spiritual classic The Dialogue inspired Paul VI to name her, together with Teresa of Ávila, the first women "doctors of the Church."

Vote No on Amendment 4

Florida Amendment 4, which will appear on Florida’s November 2024 ballot, is an extreme proposal that legalizes full-term abortion with no protections for the preborn child, including when the child is capable of feeling pain.

This proposed amendment to our state constitution would prohibit all restrictions on abortion before viability and create a broad exception that any healthcare provider could exploit to allow abortion up to birth.

As Catholics, we defend and respect the dignity of sall human life and work to eliminate prejudice, and promote justice. YOU make all this possible. Stewardship

As Catholic stewards, we use the blessings we have received and demonstrate both our understanding that we are managers (not owners) of God’s gifts and our appreciation for what we have received. When we contribute our time, talent and treasure to our parish, we follow the example of the servant who multiplied his talents while his master was away.

“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want, and it will be done for you. By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.” – John 15-7.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says that God is glorified when a disciple, grafted in Christ, produces abundantly, and bears much fruit. As such, we are called by Christ to bear good fruit by living in Him and as a disciple we must then be a good steward of that abundance. As Catholic disciples are, we living according to His call?
